I enjoyed writing a piece for the Royal Society of Literature newsletter Only Connect, choosing a talk from their archive that resonated strongly with me.
The event I chose was biographer Lyndall Gordon talking about T S Eliot’s Four Quartets.
As a biographer, she’s especially interested in the choices Eliot made about moments he focussed on in the sequence. It’s a fascinating alternative insight into how the poems are constructed, and gave me a new perspective on the work and Eliot’s attitudes.
